Before the day
Separate anything staying, and mark it clearly. Set aside paperwork, photos and anything sentimental, since once a room is being cleared it moves quickly. Check loft, garage, shed and outbuildings, because they are usually what pushes a job over the estimate.
What affects the price
Volume rather than number of rooms, access and parking, how much needs dismantling, and whether anything needs specialist disposal. A photo or two of the worst room gets you a far more accurate price than a description.

Furniture, white goods, general household waste, garden waste, timber, metal and rubble. Fridges and freezers, mattresses and electrical items are all fine. Certain hazardous items need arranging in advance.
